We've recently added a new feature to BusJourney.com. This feature allows you to specify a different fare for customers who choose a return journey rather than a single journey.
Until today, BusJourney treated all journeys as separate bookable products, with their own fares that would be added together when the customer booked both an outward and an inward journey. We know that it's helpful to be able to offer discounted fares or special fares for return journeys so we've added logic to support that.
To use this feature, navigate to Account Management > Journeys. From here you will see a list of all your Journeys. When you click to Edit a Journey you will see a number of tabs along the top. One of these tabs is Fares. On this Fares tab, you can see a grid. This grid provides access to set your Fares for each of your Schedules and Fare Bands. Check our other articles on how Fare Bands work.
You will see 2 Types - Single and Return. It's important to note that the Fare you set on the Return row is not the price for a Return journey. Yes, we know - that sounds a little counterintuitive. Let us explain. In BusJourney, each Journey is treated and managed separately. In order to allow you to specify a Return Fare that is not simply the total of the Single Fares for each direction, we created a special logic that allows you to offer a discounted fare that will only be used when the customer searches for a Return journey. In this case, we add the two "Return" far values in order to offer the correct Return Fare. If you have any problems please send us an email or create a helpdesk ticket and we'll make sure your Fares are set correctly.
